The job
A BMW G30 5 Series had Apple CarPlay activated by coding, in a remote session. No dealer visit, no hardware change: CarPlay is built into the G30's head unit and only has to be enabled.
What CarPlay activation on a G30 involves
- VIN check first: the G30 has either the NBT EVO (iDrive 6) or the MGU (iDrive 7) head unit, and the software level decides whether an update is needed first.
- Enabling the feature in the head unit and adding it to the vehicle order, so a later dealer update keeps it.
- Testing with the owner's iPhone before the session ends. CarPlay on the G30 is wireless.
The full background, including Android Auto on MGU cars, is in the BMW G30 CarPlay guide.
Same job on your BMW?
Most BMWs with NBT EVO or MGU can have CarPlay activated the same way, including the G31 Touring, G32 GT, G01 X3, G05 X5, G11 7 Series and G20 3 Series. Send the VIN for a free check.
