UK import conversions

A large share of used German cars in Ireland come in from the UK. They arrive with the speedometer in mph, the trip computer in miles, UK radio and navigation settings and sometimes British English menus. Many of these can be changed by coding:

  • Instrument cluster switched to km/h as the main unit
  • Trip computer, range and service intervals in kilometres
  • Navigation country and radio region settings
  • Daytime running lights and lighting settings

What's possible depends on the cluster. Some only switch the digital readout, others change completely. A VIN check tells you exactly what your car will show before you book.

Popular jobs in Ireland

Before the NCT

Warning lights left behind by a retrofit or a used part can cause problems at the NCT. A full scan finds the faults, and correct coding usually clears them for good instead of just resetting them for a day.

Speed warnings in Ireland

Ireland follows EU vehicle rules. New cars registered since July 2024 must have the Intelligent Speed Assistant active at every start, so on those cars I only change what the regulation allows.

Session times

I'm on Central European Time, one hour ahead of Ireland, so mornings, evenings and weekends are all easy to book.

Frequently asked questions

Can you change my UK import from mph to km/h?

On most Volkswagen Group, Mercedes-Benz and BMW clusters, yes. Send the VIN and I'll tell you what your cluster will show.

Do I need to bring the car anywhere?

No. You connect a laptop and interface at the car, wherever it is in Ireland, and I do the job remotely.

Can you help a garage, not just owners?

Yes. Many jobs are for independent garages that have the car but not the online access.

Is a used part from a breaker a problem?

Often it's locked by Component Protection. It can be adapted to your car through the official online process with proof of ownership.
