US imports: daytime running lights and km/h
Many cars bought in the US and brought into Canada need changes before they feel like Canadian cars. Canada requires daytime running lights, and drivers want the speedometer in km/h as the main unit. On many Volkswagen Group, Mercedes-Benz and BMW cars both are coding changes:
- Daytime running lights activated
- Instrument cluster switched to km/h as the main unit
- Trip computer, range and service intervals in kilometres
- Temperature in °C and language settings, including French menus
Whether a car qualifies for import, and what inspection it needs, is decided by the RIV program and your province. I only handle the coding. Send the VIN first and I'll confirm what your cluster and lighting can do.
Popular jobs in Canada
- CarPlay and Android Auto activation on VW and Audi
- VAG online programming and Component Protection after module replacement
- Mercedes-Benz coding: AMG menu, smartphone integration, retrofits
- BMW coding: CarPlay, retrofits, ISTA programming
- Remote diagnostics, including cold-weather battery and electrical faults
Winter tip
Programming in a cold garage is where batteries fail. Keep a charger connected for the whole session. It's the single biggest reason flashes fail.
Time zones
I'm on Central European Time. Eastern Canada mornings work best; Pacific sessions run early in the day.
