Replacing a control unit on a Bentley: online coding explained

Continental GT, Bentayga and Flying Spur control units are coded and protected through the Volkswagen Group's online systems. Here's what that means after a repair or module swap.

The short answer

Bentley models are built on Volkswagen Group platforms. The Bentayga shares its platform with the Audi Q7/Q8 and Lamborghini Urus, and the current Continental GT and Flying Spur share theirs with the Porsche Panamera. Replaced control units need online coding, and protected modules need official adaptation before they work fully.

Typical Bentley jobs

  • Head unit, cluster or gateway replacement
  • Air suspension and chassis modules after repair
  • Lighting and comfort control units
  • Software updates and fault clearing after accident repair

Remote, at your specialist

Many Bentley owners use an independent specialist rather than a distant dealer. The specialist connects the interface and charger, and the online coding runs remotely. The car never leaves the workshop.

Check before you buy parts

Used Bentley modules vary by model year and market. Send the VIN and part number before ordering to avoid a part that can't be adapted.

Frequently asked questions

Is an older Continental GT supported?

Many jobs on earlier generations are possible too. The VIN check confirms what applies to your car.

Can a used Bentayga part be fitted?

Often yes, with online coding and adaptation. Compatibility depends on part number and software.

Do you work with Bentley specialists?

Yes. Most sessions are with independent specialists who connect the car on their side.
